What software can students in Morocco get for free? — and what to do if you do not qualify

If you are enrolled at a university, a school or an accredited training centre, check the vendor’s own student programme before you pay anybody for software — including us. Microsoft, Autodesk, JetBrains, Figma and GitHub all run education programmes. Several are free outright. Adobe’s is a discount rather than a giveaway, but it still sits below any resale price.

That is an awkward thing for us to publish. ROSH™ Company Labs sells licences, and a student who activates a free education account is a sale we do not make. It is still the correct advice, and you would have found it yourself within a week of searching.

The difficulty is rarely the offer. It is verification. Two questions decide whether a student in Morocco actually gets in: whether your institution is recognised by the verification service the vendor uses, and whether you hold a bank card able to pay in foreign currency when the programme is a discount rather than a free tier. Both fail here more often than the marketing pages suggest. If they fail for you, the rest of this page is the fallback.

• Microsoft 365 Education — free if your institution is enrolled with Microsoft. The web apps and Teams at minimum, the installed desktop apps if your school pays for that tier.
• GitHub Student Developer Pack — free after verification, and it carries other paid tools with it, including JetBrains IDEs.
• JetBrains educational licences — free for students and teachers, renewed each year while you stay enrolled.
• Autodesk education access — free single-user access to AutoCAD, Revit, Fusion and Maya for verified students, renewed annually.
• Figma for Education — a free professional plan for verified students and teachers.
• Adobe’s student and teacher plan — a discount rather than a free tier, billed by Adobe in its own currency.
• Google AI Pro — Google has run free twelve-month student offers, but only in a list of countries that keeps changing. Read Google’s own eligibility page before assuming Morocco is on it.

For comparison, a year at our prices: Adobe Creative Cloud, 400 MAD per 4 months, is 1,200 MAD over three terms. Microsoft 365, 100 MAD per 3 months, is 400 MAD over four. CapCut Pro is 700 MAD a year, Google AI Pro 250 MAD a year, Apple Music 200 MAD across four terms of 50 MAD, and Bitdefender Total Security 399 MAD a year for 5 devices. Free beats all of it.

Education pricing is not generosity. It is segmentation, and it works. A student who learns Revit, Photoshop or a JetBrains IDE on a free licence tends, five years later, to specify that same tool in an office paying list price. Vendors give away the years when you have no money and recover it in the years when your employer does. Understanding that helps, because it tells you exactly what they want from you: proof that you are the user the discount was written for.

Most vendors do not check that themselves. They outsource it to a verification service holding a list of recognised institutions and accepted email domains. That list is thorough for North America and Europe and patchy elsewhere. A Moroccan academic address ending in ac.ma often passes; a private school running its mail on a consumer provider frequently does not. When the automatic check fails, nearly every programme falls back to a document upload — student card, enrolment certificate, or a dated tuition receipt carrying your name.

The second obstacle is payment. A discounted plan is still charged in foreign currency, and a Moroccan card has to be enabled for international online payment first, drawing on your foreign-currency allowance.

Free does not always mean usable for paid work. Several education licences are study-only. Autodesk’s education access and JetBrains’ free educational licences are not licensed for commercial projects, and files made under an education entitlement can carry a marker saying so. If you take freelance jobs while studying, read the term before you invoice. Adobe’s student plan is a normal commercial licence sold cheaper.

Education entitlements also expire. Most require re-verification every year and they end when you graduate, so export your work in formats you will still be able to open afterwards.

Ignore anyone selling a ready-made verified student account. It is somebody else’s identity, it breaks the vendor’s terms, and it can be reclaimed without warning. Where we are the wrong choice: if you qualify for a free programme, buy nothing from us. If you need paperwork — a lab budget, a scholarship reimbursement, an association’s accounts, an expense claim — ROSH™ Company Labs is not a formally registered company and issues no tax invoice. In order, and the order matters.

1. Ask your department or IT office two things: does the institution hold an agreement with Microsoft, Autodesk or MATLAB, and what is your academic email address. Plenty of students have one and never activate it.
2. Sign up to each vendor’s education programme with that address before trying anything else.
3. If the automatic check refuses you, upload documents instead: student card, enrolment certificate, or a dated tuition receipt in your name. Scan them flat and readable.
4. If you write code, apply to the GitHub Student Developer Pack. It is the largest single bundle on this list.
5. Where no student programme exists, use the free professional tools: Blender, DaVinci Resolve, Krita, Inkscape, GIMP, Kdenlive, LibreOffice, Visual Studio Code. These are not consolation prizes; whole parts of the industry run on them.

Only after all of that is there a reason to message us on WhatsApp, and only for the tools with no student route — CapCut Pro at 700 MAD a year being the usual one.
