Envato Elements vs Freepik Premium — breadth, licences and the real cost in Morocco

Both are subscriptions to a library of ready-made creative assets, but they were built by different companies for different jobs. Envato Elements is run by Envato, an Australian company. One subscription gives you unmetered downloads across video templates for After Effects and Premiere Pro, stock footage, music tracks, sound effects, graphics, presentation templates, fonts, photos, and WordPress themes and plugins.

Freepik Premium is run by Freepik Company, based in Spain. Its centre of gravity is graphic design: vectors, photos, PSD mockups, icons, editable templates, and a large AI suite for generating images and video or upscaling files. The paid tier also removes the attribution requirement that applies to Freepik’s free downloads.

One difference matters before all the others. Envato Elements sets no ceiling on how much you download. Freepik meters downloads with a daily allowance that depends on your plan. Neither company hides this, but it changes how you work. With Envato you pull five options and decide later. With Freepik you decide first, then download.

Breadth is the honest answer. Envato Elements covers formats Freepik barely touches, and for a working freelancer that alone often ends the argument.

• Motion and video templates. After Effects, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve project files — openers, lower thirds, transitions, complete title packs. Freepik has nothing comparable.
• Music and sound effects. A real royalty-free catalogue, with a licence code you can use to clear a Content ID claim on YouTube. Freepik does not offer this at all.
• Web and code. WordPress themes, page-builder templates and plugins, so a small studio can deliver a client site from the same subscription.
• No daily cap. Nothing to ration each morning.

The licence side has a detail worth knowing. For every end product you deliver, you register a licence covering the items you used. Registration is free while you subscribe, and it stays valid for that project even after you stop paying. The catch is that it is a step you must actually take. Skip it and the work you already shipped is not covered. Ten minutes per project and the issue disappears.

Freepik Premium is faster at the work that actually pays designers in Morocco: social posts, flyers, restaurant menus, packaging mockups, presentations, brand collateral requested this morning and delivered this afternoon.

• Editable vectors. The catalogue is deeper and better organised, and files open cleanly in Illustrator or Affinity with layers intact.
• Mockups and PSDs. Plentiful and well indexed, and immediately useful the moment a client wants to see the logo on a bag before approving anything.
• Coherent icon sets. Whole families in one style rather than scattered single files that never quite match.
• AI in the same place. Image and video generation, upscaling and background removal sit beside the stock library, so the one asset the catalogue lacks can be generated without leaving the layout.

The licence here is simpler: premium downloads are covered for commercial use, with no attribution and no per-project registration, and what you downloaded while subscribed stays usable afterwards. One caveat slips past most people. AI-generated images are licensed for commercial use, but they are generally not protectable as your own copyright, so nothing stops a competitor producing something very close. Acceptable for a campaign, risky for a permanent brand asset.

Bought directly, both are billed in foreign currency by card, and that is where Moroccan buyers get stuck. A domestic-only Moroccan card is simply declined. You need a card enabled for international payments, and those charges draw on the annual foreign-currency allowance set by the Office des Changes — an allowance you may prefer to keep for something else. Annual billing is cheaper per month than monthly on both platforms, but it means one large foreign-currency debit in a single go.

• Web builder on WordPress. Envato Elements, for the themes and plugins alone.
• Content creator on a tight budget who mostly needs images and a little AI. Freepik Premium.
• Agency doing all of it. Honestly, both — they overlap less than their marketing suggests. If the budget allows only one, take Envato Elements for coverage and accept that vector search will irritate you.

One warning applies to both, and it is expensive to learn the hard way: neither licence lets you register a downloaded asset as a trademark. If you are building a logo or a brand mark meant to last, do not take it from either library. Commission original work, or draw it yourself. Everything else — campaigns, videos, decks, posts, client sites — both licences handle without drama.
